Terry, Grant propel first-place Ducks past Seattle Kraken 4-1

ANAHEIM, California (AP) – Troy Terry scored his 18th goal and Derek Grant scored an underpaid goal in the fourth victory of the Anaheim Ducks in five games, 4-1 over the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday evening.

Trevor Zegras and Sam Carrick also scored for the Pacific Division-leading Ducks, who spoiled the first appearance of the Seattle in Southern California expansion with a one-sided victory. Anthony Stolarz made 19 saves for Anaheim, who scored 11 goals in two games against the Kraken that season.

Ryan Donato scored a power play goal in five games in Seattle’s fourth loss. Philipp Grubauer stopped 15 shots in the first two periods of his fourth winless appearance in a row before Chris Driedger ended the California road trip with two games for the Kraken, which began with a win in San Jose on Tuesday.

Anaheim took at least one point for the eighth time in nine games and was at the top of the division three points ahead of Calgary. The Ducks scored a goal through both their power play and penalty shoot-out unit, adding to their excellent play on special teams after being among the worst in the NHL last season.

Stolarz has also played solidly for the injured John Gibson for his first consecutive starts of the season. Stolarz has not lost in six starts since October.

Zegras put the Ducks ahead just 10 minutes in his first home game since passing Sonny Milano over the net in Buffalo to score one of the most spectacular NHL goals of last season. Anaheim’s estimated 20-year-old center scored his seventh goal of the season with a nasty wrist shot that struck Grubauer through traffic.

Grant then picked up the puck in a Seattle power play and shot unimpeded at an unassisted goal, Anaheim’s third shorthanded tally of the season.

Terry scored a goal in a power play early in the second period that put him fourth on goals in the NHL for his breakout season. Only Teemu Selanne (23), Corey Perry (19) and Paul Kariya (19) have scored more goals than Terry’s 18 in the first 30 games of an Anaheim season.

Donato scored in a power play late in the second after a pass from Jordan Eberle four seconds from time, giving him goals in consecutive games for the first time this season.

Carrick scored his sixth goal of the season with a remarkable shot from an acute angle from below the goal line at the start of the third period.
