Spokane’s Clean Air Agency says people should prepare now for next year’s smoking season

Despite drought, wind, and unusually warm temperatures, all factors in the spread of forest fires, Spokane County recorded less unhealthy air quality than in previous years.

Since the beginning of this year, Spokane County’s air quality has fallen below unhealthy standards for some groups on eight separate days.

Lisa Woodard, spokeswoman for the Spokane Clean Air Agency, said this year was an average of what the area has already seen and will see for years to come.

“So the smoke concentration was much lower than last year, but we had more days. We’d love to see the smoke-free sky here during our lovely summers. Unfortunately, that will not be the case in the foreseeable future. “

The summer with the worst air quality on record for this region is 2017, when there were 16 days of poor air quality, three of which were very unhealthy.

She said next summer could be similar to this year and urged people to start preparations now, e.g.

Oven filters and fans, accessories for a DYI air filter, can now also be in stock.
