The Portland Winterhawks play a home game in Kent, Washington. A month ago it looked like they would have to do this a lot over the next two months. There were many questions: Would Portland Sucks be directed into the arena if they got on the ice? would Gary Glitter welcome Winterhawk’s goals? The state of Oregon finally gave the Winterhawks the permit they needed, and so this will just be the home game of 12 that actually won’t be home.

Portland can make a good weekend with a win in their second home. On Saturday night, ShoWare visitors overcame a slow start and won their game against Seattle by three goals in an 8-minute stretch. Dante Giannuzzi kept the Thunderbirds off the scoreboard in the first game, and Mason Mannek scored both the game and a hat trick from Gordie Howe with an empty net goal from his own blue line towards the end of the game. They do a weekend (Thursday-Saturday-Sunday) with a 5 out of 6 as they face a desperate Spokane.

Forward

16-gift classes (32)
21-Jonah Bevington (2)
16 19-Kyle Chyzowski (2)
72-Marcus Nguyen (2)

Jarvis recorded his first point on Saturday and could have had a few more without the goalkeeper.

Kozak left on the 2nd and did not return. If he can’t go and Gervais is still out, the Winterhawks will be a striker.

Leading forward: Mannek (3/2), Newkirk (3/2), Litke (1/2), Dureau (1/2), Fromm-Delorme (1/2), Jarvis (1/2), Knak (1 ) / 2), grades (1/2).

defender
20th 29 – Nick Cicek (121)
19th 2-Kade Nolan (88)
27-Jonas Brøndberg (52)
18th 23-Kurtis Smythe (31)
17th 6-Ryan McCleary (1)
44-Brody Tallman (1)
16 3-Luca Cagnoni (0)
43-Ryder Thompson (2)

It was a good start for the experienced defenders, with 5 total points and no goals that were allowed for Cicek, Nolan and Brøndberg with equal strength.

Leading defenders: Brøndberg (2/2), Nolan (1/2), Cicek (1/2).

goalkeeper
19th 35-Brock Gould (64)
18th 31-Dante Giannuzzi (15)

Giannuzzi played the first two and played well. We’ll get an idea if they see Gould as someone who just plays the 3-in-3 game or if he’s more than that.

Goalkeeper numbers: Giannuzzi save .938 percent (4 saves over .870).

Spokane spent the whole weekend in Puget Sound and it was a struggle. They opened the season on Friday at ShoWare with a 4-3 loss to Seattle and on Saturday they were banned 2-0 at Everett. They hope that wild third-placed Adam Beckman and long-time veteran Eli Zummack can keep a young team competitive. Your squad consists of nine 17-year-olds, none of whom have a point yet. In a season of 24 games, starting with 1 point in 3 games would put them under a lot of pressure.

Forward
20th 29-Eli Zummack (257)
19th 16-Cordel Larson (141)
34-Adam Beckman (139)
18th 12-Erik Atchison (95)
20-Reed Jacobson (52)
26-Jack Finley (146)
17th 11-Ty Cheveldayoff (2)
13-Grady Lane (3)
15-Blake Swetlikoff (13)
17-Brandon Reller (29)
18-Copeland Fricker (2)
27-Owen MacNeil (48)
16 28-Ben Thornton (2)

Obviously not much outside of their two stars. Finley is out, he would be her third star to play with Beckman.

They haven’t gotten anything from their young players yet. Thornton is a first-round pick who debuted against Everett on Saturday. MacNeil is a second round hit who has played a lot last season.

Leading forward: Beckman (3/2), Zummack (2/2), Atchison (1/2).

defender
20th 3-Matt Leduc (177)
21-Bobby Russell (174)
19th 5-Jordan Chudley (77)
18th 6-Mac Large (29)
25-Raegan Wiles (40)
17th 4-Chase Faller-Mohr (2)
7-Graham Sward (58)
16 2-Logan Cunningham (2)

Her biggest hope is that Sward will take a step forward after a decent rookie year. Leduc and Russell are the veterans.

Lead defense attorney: Wiles (1/2), Russell (1/2).

goalkeeper
18th 1-Campbell Arnold (25)
17th 30-Mason Beaupit (4)
16 31-Manny Panghli (0)

This was supposed to be Lukas Parik, but they gave him a Covid loan to the USHL. Arnold and Beaupit each played a game and everyone played well.

Goalkeeper numbers: Arnold .919 (2), Beaupit .909 (1).
