SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Police Sergeant Teresa Fuller is Washington’s first female law enforcement liaison.

Fuller has been with the SPD for 23 years and was recently appointed law enforcement liaison officer.

The National Law Enforcement Liaison Program was established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Governors Highway Safety Administration to promote safety on national and state roads.

In her role, Fuller will coordinate the SPD’s participation with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to address behavioral traffic safety issues such as speeding, distracted driving, and impairment.

“I want to preach the word of the bigger picture when it comes to road safety and how much it affects our systems,” said Fuller. “Road safety concerns everyone, and everyone can do something to make our roads safer.”

Fuller is no stranger to road safety and education. During her time at SPD, she became a car seat technician and personally taught new parents and caregivers about the correct safety of child car seats.

“I think that’s where my passion for road safety began, with the safety checks on the car seats. It was a clear way of seeing that you are helping people and possibly even saving the lives of children, ”Fuller said.

Fuller says it is an “honor” to be Washington’s first woman to be called to this position.
