SPOKANE, Washington – Whether for work or school this morning, some coped better with the snow than others.

Patrick Dougherty is a chiropractor who lives two miles from his office.

“You just have to go slowly,” said Dougherty. “Hopefully everyone will drive slowly because it is slippery and there is thick snow.”

But while he was going to work, many in the Emerson-Garfield neighborhood were still shoveling sidewalks and trying to clear their cars.

“I have a neighbor who comes by with a snow thrower and he’s doing our block, which is nice,” said Greg Beumer, a Spokane resident. “Then I come out and keep digging all day. But you know it’s practice and I like it. “

While city plows work hills, bridges and traffic arteries, many people are left to their own devices in the morning.

Beumer says it has been difficult for plows to get through narrow streets with too many cars.

“It’s really hard for everyone to go across the street because there is no space. There just isn’t, ”he said. “Not all streets are like that, I know, but most of these residential streets are much narrower.”

Despite the difficulties, Beumer says he doesn’t mind the big storm and believes this is all part of life in the northwest of the country.

“I like the four seasons. I’m paying for it, you know? ”He said. “I live up here, I like it.”
