SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane legislature is pushing for bill to provide scholarships for families affected by violent crime.

Rep. Jenny Graham supports House Bill 1584. The bill would create a government-funded scholarship program for scholarships for violent crime and their immediate families.

Graham urges it to be changed to “Lilly’s Law” after the death of the 5-year-old whose mother, Kassie, was stabbed to death in a domestic violence incident in Spokane last spring. Lilly was dead and seriously injured, but survived the attack.

“Lilly’s mother was a single mother. She has had friends and family in her life, of course, but ultimately she is no longer here to help Lilly achieve her dream of attending college, university or an apprenticeship program, “Graham said in a statement. “Our state currently has a surplus of billions of dollars. I think we have a duty to look after the victims of violent crime and their immediate families. “

The bipartisan bill was officially presented at the end of the 2021 legislative period. It’s on the House College and Workforce Development Committee.
