The son of the chief of the MBTA’s Transit Police Department remains held without bail in connection with a deadly shooting that happened in Everett, Massachusetts. Brian Green, 35, of Saugus, was arraigned Wednesday in Middlesex Superior Court following a Sept. 28 indictment on murder and armed burglary charges by a Middlesex County grand jury. Green, a Commuter Rail train conductor and the son of TPD Chief Kenneth Green, pleaded not guilty during Wednesday’s arraignment. He was previously arraigned in Malden District Court in August. Prosecutors said Brian Green fatally shot 38-year-old Jarmahl Sutson, of Lynn, in the early morning hours of July 19 in the Central Avenue apartment where Green previously lived. According to investigators, Green was reportedly upset about Sutson’s relationship with Green’s estranged wife, who still lived in the apartment.”We are disappointed to see the suspect involved. He is no stranger to our family or the community,” Sutson’s cousin, Michael Satterwhite, said in August. “We can agree that violence is never the answer. (Jarmahl) was a father, a son and a brother. This one event will sadly forever impact our family.”According to prosecutors, Brian Green claimed he was at work at the time of the shooting but that the evidence against him includes surveillance video, some of which came from Kenneth Green’s home. Court papers stated that Brian Green’s estranged wife told investigators that he “appeared controlling and questioning” in texts that were sent before the shooting. Prosecutors said Green is named in restraining orders that date back to 2016. Keolis, the operator of the MBTA Commuter Rail, previously said Brian Green would be placed on unpaid leave pending disciplinary proceedings.
