Shane Waldron excited to bring Gerald Everett along to Seahawks

Shane Waldron may be new to the Seattle Seahawks, but at least he’ll have a familiar face as part of his offensive next season.

After the Seahawks signed Gerald Everett of the former Los Angeles Rams last week, Waldron can bring to Seattle a player who already has a background in the offensive program he wants to implement.

“Gerald brings versatility to any offense so we’re excited to bring him here and really use him as a weapon that can move around in an offensive structure and do a lot of different things,” Waldron said of John Boyle of the team’s website.

The Seahawks Offense suffered badly from the lack of a consistent third option in the passing game, especially in the second half of last season. David Moore had noticeable success early on, but it wasn’t a regular occurrence. Phillip Dorsett missed the whole year due to foot injuries. Greg Olsen also missed part of the time with a foot injury. Josh Gordon was released from the suspension only to have it restored when he returned to the building in December. While DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett had productive years, the teams began working them more consistently, with no third piece to adequately attack the reporting.

Everett shared time with Tyler Higbee with the Rams on the narrow end. Though he didn’t have astounding numbers during his four years with the Rams, Everett has flashed some stellar games at times. Waldron believes his skills will be an asset with the Seahawks.

“He’s got aggressive hands and he always seems to find a way to be open to close man-to-man reporting,” said Waldron. “Then, once the ball is in his hand, his ability to make the first man to miss or break that first tackle was something he has been able to consistently flaunt since college and at the NFL level. So it’s a huge benefit to his ability to aggressively attack the ball and then do something with it once it’s in his hands. “

Everett was a previous second round pick in 2017 and had a career high of 41 catches for 417 yards and a touchdown for Los Angeles last year.
