Seniors should be exempted from Sound Transit car tab tax

Letters

I have just mailed the report of the 38th session. At the upcoming session, whenever this is due, Senator June Robinson and Reps. Here’s what Mike Sells and Emily Wicks do for the seniors who live in Everett and north of Everett; and that is, sponsoring a bill so that seniors are exempt from paying area tax on their vehicles.

For owners of newer cars, that’s several hundred dollars a year. Sound Transit’s Link light rail passenger service is slated to reach Everett by 2037 at the earliest, and I know I won’t be riding a train at that age along with others who will be between the mid and late 80s when it is completed. I will rather be in an ambulance before ever using these public transportation.

Yet us seniors are expected to pay thousands of dollars for something we cannot or are unable to use. I’ve written about it to our representatives and I’ve only heard from Senator Robinson. Hopefully this letter will not lead you to think that anything should be done for seniors in this situation.
