Seattle performer bringing flamenco back to peninsula in June

Seattle-based flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes is bringing her latest work, Flores de Verano Flamenco en Vivo, to Sequim Prairie Grange on Wednesday June 16 to follow two performances at Eaglemount Winery in Port Townsend scheduled for June 12th. June 15th and June 12th are scheduled for June 15th.

After a year of “limitation and self-reflection,” Fuentes said she created a program that she hopes will pass on to her growth as an artist. In “Flores de Verano” traditional forms of flamenco music as well as contemporary music themes are presented.

All safety guidelines and removal measures will be followed on the Sequim and Port Townsend appointments which are part of the extensive West Coast tour from Fuentes.

Tickets for the Sequim show, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, are $ 33. The first two-row seats are $ 44 and the VIP seating for benefactors is $ 60. Children are $ 15 per ticket. Tickets are available at eventbrite.com/e/152203620125.

Tickets for the shows in Port Townsend – both 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Eaglemount Winery, 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road – are the same. Tickets for June 12 are available at eventbrite.com/e/149950944311 and tickets for the June 15 show at eventbrite.com/e/153895777413.

Fuentes has produced and danced independently in over 300 performances and workshops with internationally recognized Spanish flamenco artists such as Carlos de Jacoba, Saray Munoz and Jesus Montoya.

She regularly tours Washington states, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, and Arizona – often for communities that might otherwise not enjoy the art form. These tours have included tour dates in the Olympic Peninsula in recent years, including a performance at Sequims Olympic Theater Arts in 2018.

After a year of “limitation and self-reflection,” Fuentes, dancer and producer, said she created a program that she hopes will fuel her growth as an artist. In “Flores de Verano” traditional forms of flamenco music as well as contemporary music themes are presented.

Born in Seattle to parents of Puerto Rican and Irish descent, Fuentes said her fascination with flamenco dancing (baile) and singing (canteen) came in early childhood, fueled by watching a flamenco performance on television.

“Even though I was a kid, I felt an immediate connection with the art form,” she said.

All safety guidelines and removal procedures will be followed on the Sequim and Port Townsend appointments which are part of the Fuentes West Coast Tour.
