Seahawks TE battle 2021: Who won starter role between Gerald Everett and Will Dissly, fantasy football implications

The Seattle Seahawks spent the training camp and preseason clearing their tight picture. Incumbent Will Dissly fought the free agent addition Gerald Everett, who later got most of the hype in the off-season. And it wasn’t just the media or fantasy forecasters who drove up the former Rams tight end. Head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Russell Wilson both spoke about Everett’s receptiveness. It is enough that Everett has a slight advantage over Dissly on the depths table, but for the sake of imagination you may want to dampen your expectations of either player.

Dissly and Everett stood together for the first time in Seattle’s third preseason game. They split the snaps pretty evenly, 12 for Everett and 10 for Dissly. Significantly, Everett had an advantage when the Seahawks came close to the field. Everett was the only one who posted any statistics the preseason and caught a two-yard pass.

verdict

One thing that will benefit Everett is that he can also play the receiver spots, which the team hailed this summer. Unfortunately, we didn’t see enough of him last season to get a feel for what this will look like when the game starts to count. He has some advantages, but with a pretty even distribution between him and Dissly, it looks like the Seahawks tight-end committee is more of an asset to the team than the imagination.

Everett is still a better choice than Dissly. That said, the timeshare we saw should probably bring some cold water to the TE1 conversation. Everett is worth a late flyer, but you should look for a more solid tight end to start before it.
