Salvation Army bell robbed, suspect captured

VANCOUVER, Washington (AP) – A man was tracked and arrested by Washington state officials after allegedly attacking a Salvation Army hunchback and escaping with his donation kettle.

Clark County MPs responded to a reported robbery at a grocery store in Vancouver just before 8 p.m. Saturday night and attempted to stop the suspect as he escaped through traffic on foot.

Two MPs followed the suspect and arrested him after a brief battle, the Clark County Sheriff’s office said. The money kettle had been thrown away by the suspect but was recovered with the help of the police dog Apollo.

The bell ringer suffered minor injuries. The suspect has been sent to Clark County Prison for robbery, theft, resisting arrest and obstruction of law enforcement.
