Robinson-Harper is retiring from DoDEA this month

After 41 years of dedicated community service, Roseland Robinson-Harper has set his sights on her well-deserved retirement and spending more time with her family and friends.

Harper is from Scott County and Forest. She graduated from Forest High School in 1973. She attended Alcorn State University and graduated with a BS in 1976; and received her Masters from Portland State University in 1989.

She is the proud mother of two wonderful children, Vanessa and Da’Waud; four great grandchildren; Arianna, Amir, Alyssia Rose and Angelo.

Her career began in 1977 as an elementary school teacher in Vancouver, Washington, where she was at home. Until 1994 she taught primary school classes 2-4. Then she moved to Memphis, TN. As a primary school teacher, Roseland also coached the 7th to 8th grade girls’ basketball team.

In 1999, her career changed when she began teaching with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). Her first term was in Okinawa, Japan, which lasted until 2003. Then she moved to Ansbach, Germany. She will retire from DoDEA this month.

A dedicated academic, Harper is committed to generously giving her time and experience to her students, colleagues, and school initiatives. We will very much miss your insightful input and generosity.

As Roseland ponders the value of education, she recalls a quote from Maya Angelou: “Don’t just teach, because that’s all you can do. Teach because it is your calling. When you notice that, you have a responsibility to the young people. ”
