Rob graduated from Oxford High School and attended Worcester State University. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the US Navy and served honorably for four years as a medical corpsman. He was stationed all over the world, including Camp LeJeune, NC.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his sons, Alex Mason of Hartford, Connecticut and Scott Langley of Vancouver, Washington. Rob was a free spirit with a keen intellect who endured the consequences of his illness with dignity and grace. It can be said that he treats people with respect and consideration regardless of the situation. His interests included music, physics, art, science and meteorology. He was also an accomplished photographer whose work was recognized by various publications. His main focus, however, was on his boys and their paths through life. He’ll be remembered as a wonderful father who, even through the personal tests of the last few years, was always present for his sons. They, and his friends and family will remember and miss him very much. The family would also like to thank Dr. Muthalagu Ramanathan and the Oncology Department at UMass Memorial for their care from the beginning and during Rob’s ordeal.

His memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 19th at 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Veteran, Inc., 60 Grove St., Worcester, MA. 01605.
