Robert A. Hyde | The daily world

Robert A. Hyde, 78 years old, a resident of Hoquiam, Washington, died Thursday, December 10, 2020, at the Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma. He was born on August 16, 1942 in Vancouver, Washington, to Nyle Leonard and Claudellia L. (Calilier) Hyde. He and his family settled in Wenatchee when he was 1 year old.

In 1961 he graduated from Wenatchee High School. After that, Bob served two years in the US Army, which included a tour of Vietnam.

Bob began his career as a funeral director with an apprenticeship at Jones & Jones Mortuary in Wenatchee. He graduated from the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles in 1968 and received his funeral parlor and embalming licenses that same year.

While living in Los Angeles, Bob met Joan M. Jeney. The couple married on February 20, 1971 in Arcadia, California. They moved to West Seattle, where Bob was employed at Yarington’s White Center Funeral Home.

Bob and Joan came to Hoquiam in 1974 and have been with Coleman Mortuary ever since.

Being very active in the community, Bob served on the Hoquiam City Council for 12 years; the Council of Adjustments for the City of Hoquiam; a member of the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Good Help and her ward council; Knight of Columbus; has been active in scouting for over 20 years, is a life member of the Henry L. Robb VFW Post 1135 in Hoquiam and was a long-time member of the Hoquiam Rotary, where he held numerous positions.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Joan, of the family home in Hoquiam; a son John R. Hyde and his wife Suzy of Washougal; Daughter Kristy Ford and her husband Tracy of Aberdeen; Grandson John R. Hyde Jr. from Washougal and granddaughter Elaina Lynn Ford from Aberdeen. Bob preceded his parents in death, a brother David Nyle Hyde and a sister, Patricia Ann Conley and her husband Richard.

The family suggests making memorial donations to St. Mary’s School, 518 North H St., Aberdeen, WA, 98520; Knights of Columbus Charities; or to PAWS, PO Box 451, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Good Help in Hoquiam. This is followed by a reception at the OLGH high school.

A private funeral service was held at Orondo Cemetery near Wenatchee.
