RIP Ralph Everett Morgan | Newport Buzz

Ralph Everett Morgan, 92, of Newport RI, died peacefully on July 26, 2021 at Newport Hospital surrounded by his loving children. Ralph was born on July 9, 1929 in Newport RI to the late Frank and Amanda Mason Morgan.

Ralph was the beloved and devoted husband of the late Julia G. Morgan, to whom he was married for 70 wonderful years. Ralph attended Newport Schools before joining the Navy at the age of 17. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Navy before receiving an honorable discharge to marry the “love of his life” Julia, whom he was with a Fenner. had got to know hall dance. He was so fond of Julia that legend has it that he wandered home from Pennsylvania one weekend while on vacation, only to be picked up at her doorstep just after eight that evening by her father, who firmly told him “that not decent” girl goes out after eight o’clock !! ” and close the door.

Ralph began his career with JT O’Connell before joining the Newport Fire Department, which he served for 26 years. While in the fire department, he also worked as a glazier for the Newport Restoration Foundation and worked on some of Newport’s most historic homes. After retiring from the fire department in 1981, he worked with good friend and retired colleague Jack Kane at the Goat Island Condo Association and Newport Country Club until he finally retired.

Together with his wife, he raised four children and gave them the guidance, love and support to be successful on their way. Later in life, his focus was on “Grampy”, the adoring and loving rock in the lives of its four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The two played an influential role in their upbringing, taking care of them all on a daily basis when their parents went to work. The comfort this gave to his own children cannot be overstated and we are eternally grateful to him. His reward is the unbreakable bond with all of his grandchildren that will live forever in their hearts.

Ralph loved all sports, but golf was his favorite sport. He was a member of the Wanumetonomy Country Club, where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends and many social events with his wife. He and the family also loved camping with friends in their early years. His dear friend Winnie Roggero led them all into song and laughter well into the night that they would joke about for years. In retirement, he and his wife, along with his sister-in-law, Linda Ashook, spent many winters in Florida enjoying the fruits of their labor. We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge that he always enjoyed a good martini, an old fashion, or a Manhattan whenever it was appropriate.

He was a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Middletown Knights of Columbus, Newport Elks Lodge, and the Edward King Center. He was also a lifelong communicant of Jesus Savior Church, where he sang in the choir for many years.
Ralph leaves his four children behind. Ralph E. Morgan Jr. from Newport, Bruce W. Morgan (Deb Wahl) from North Kingston, Sandra M. Curtis (David) from Middletown and Frank Kelly-Morgan (Anthony) from Newport. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Anne Mahoney, Morgan, Taylor and Michael Curtis and great-grandchildren Trent and Troy Sotelo. He also leaves her brother-in-law John Mello and his wife Maria von Middletown as well as several nieces and nephews.

In death he was preceded by his sister Dorthey Blake and his brothers Frank (Bud) and Harold Morgan.
