Rev. Franklin Graham says he is disappointed that the Seattle Police Department withdrew an invitation to its law enforcement recognition event in Bellevue next week.

KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson told Graham that Seattle Councilor Lorena Gonzalez was putting immense pressure on law enforcement to withdraw the invitation, saying that Graham’s event could offend the LGBTQ community.

Graham told Dori that the event is open to all police officers, regardless of religion, sexual orientation or skin color. He said they are pushing the event and expect a good turnout.

“The men and women in law enforcement are under tremendous pressure … and they are discouraged,” said Graham. “We’re just going to have a great dinner, fellowship time. … We want them to know that we love them and support them. “

Graham said he was not anti-gay.

“We invite you,” he said. “We don’t fight, we invite.”

Graham’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner will be held on May 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue.
