After a national search, Darren Redick was selected as the executive director for the Providence Northwest Washington Service Area, which includes the Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE) and the Providence Medical Group Northwest. He starts this week in his new position.

Redick brings over 30 years of healthcare, leadership, and strategic planning experience. He has served in the Northwest Service Area since 2009 and is very familiar with the vital role of Providence in our churches. He is a servant leader committed to the providential mission to care for all, especially the poor and vulnerable.

The native Alaskan began his civil engineering career before joining Providence Alaska in 1988. He later moved to Providence Seattle to serve as Assistant Administrator of Support Services. From 2000 to 2009 he directed facilities, real estate and construction for the Swedish healthcare sector in Seattle. In that capacity, he led leasing, design, construction and management for more than 4.2 million square feet and successfully closed and opened a new $ 140 million orthopedic institute. Redick has served in the Northwest Service Area for the past 12 years. In 2013 he became Executive Director of Operations and VP of Professional & Support Services.

One of the highlights of his work in the Northwest Service Area is the development of the PRMCE Service Operations Center, which delivers vital operational information in real time to a central hub. He also led the construction, commissioning and operational transition for the Cymbaluk Medical Tower, including the ability to create negative airflow patient units that can be used in a pandemic. Both the Service Operations Center and the foresight to build negative airflow rooms have proven invaluable since PRMCE admitted the first known COVID-19 patient in the United States

“Having had the opportunity to work closely with Darren, we know his integrity, values and work ethic well,” said Scott O’Brien, chief operating officer of Providence Washington & Montana. “His colleagues and direct co-workers keep talking about the respect they have for him and his mix of operational expertise, strategic thinking, diplomacy and tact.”

“I am honored and humbled to be selected for this role,” said Redick. “Our caregivers are a shining light to our patients and not only offer excellent care, but also compassion and clear communication. My personal mission is to facilitate the path and the path of our patients to whom we have been entrusted. “

Redick outlined three of his main priorities as he transitioned into his new role:

· The continued growth and development of excellent clinical care to meet the increasing needs of our communities. He is committed to growing for the future and providing critical services and world-class care in Snohomish County so patients don’t have to go to Seattle. And he understands the important role that community philanthropy plays, which has funded so much of that growth over the past 10 years.

· He is passionate about justice in all its forms. Health equity in our communities, equity for our patients, and diversity, equity and inclusion in our workforce. He believes in improving the patient and care experience by developing a more diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.

· Finally, and most importantly, Redick is dedicated to the providential mission. He wants to continue building Providence’s community engagement work and focus on helping those most in need. He maintains close relationships with community leaders and partner organizations and is committed to promoting those relationships to improve the health and wellbeing of the community.

Redick is also a member of the YMCA Snohomish County Board of Trustees, the NW Healthcare Response Network Board, the Hospital Central Services Association Board, and the Everett Transitional Care Unit Board. He was previously a member of the Snohomish County Board of the Red Cross and received the Seattle Magazine Leaders in Health Care Award in 2018.
