The streak continued for Portland on Friday night, as they blew out Spokane 8-1 for their 11th straight win. They broke the game open in the 2nd period on a penalty shot by Cross Hanas, on the way to his first career hat trick.
So now they have two games left in a five-game series in which so far they’ve outscored Spokane 24-4. They’re heavy favorites in their next three games, and have to be favored to push the win streak to at least 14. Dante Giannuzzi will probably get the call Saturday as they go for number 12.

| 20 | 35-Taylor Gauthier (176) |
| 19 | 31-Dante Giannuzzi (61) |
Gauthier’s team-record shutout streak stopped at 251:11, but he still had an easy game.
If their pattern continues they will go with Giannuzzi. He didn’t have a great game last Saturday against Spokane but picked up his third straight win and and seventh in his last eight tries.
Save percentages: Giannuzzi .890, Gauthier .935.

Spokane changed coaches after Wednesday game and it didn’t have the immediate impact they’d hoped for. After about 10 good minutes and getting a power play with a chance to cut the lead to one, they gave up the shorthanded goal to Hanas and fell off dramatically after that. And the loss of goalie Mason Beaupit has been too much to overcome–their goalies the last two games have allowed 17 goals on 100 shots.
As Portland hasn’t gained much ground with teams around them winning, Spokane hasn’t lost much ground as the teams around them have been losing, save for Tri-City’s upset of Kamloops on Wednesday. They’re still only 2 points out of a playoff spot, and they’ll hope to, somehow, find a way to do the same to Portland.

| 15 | 34-Berkly Catton (1) |
Catton, the 1st overall pick, made his WHL debut Friday. He looked OK for a 15-year-old.
Bertholet, who has been very good since coming over in the trade for Jack Finley, was a -6 on Friday. In a lot of ways you have to be good to be -6 without getting benched. He’s -10 in the three games of this series.
They need more impact from Hughes.
Leading forwards: Hughes (39/39), Bertholet (39/47), McCarry (37/45), Hayes (19/46), Proske (18/40), Swetlikoff (18/41).
