New Orleans has a long and savory culinary history, and that’s where Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen was born and bred. Founded in 1972, Popeyes was launched by Al Copeland and reportedly takes its name from Detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle from the movie “The French Connection.” Today, Popeyes is known for its succulent and inexpensive fried chicken in restaurants around the world. There are currently more than 2,600 outlets and growing.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Popeyes is coming to Spokane County. In fact, two locations are in the works.

One location will be built at 9558 W US Highway 2 in Airway Heights. The other will be at 9252 N Newport Highway, the same site as the former Burger King.

Both locations are being built by Ambrosia QSR, a multi-brand, quick-serve restaurant operating company out of Vancouver, Washington. The company operates more than 150 Burger King and Popeyes restaurants throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The two new locations will be the first of their kind in Eastern Washington, though there is one located across state lines in Post Falls.

Building plans show both locations will have two drive-thru lanes and plenty of parking, including electric vehicle charging stations.

“We’re excited to bring a strong Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen presence to the Spokane area over the next couple of years,” Chief Executive Officer Luke Pisors said in an email to 4 News Now.

Both locations are expected to open in late 2023.
