Police investigating after woman assaulted in downtown Seattle – ` 7 News Seattle

SEATTLE — A woman who was attacked in downtown Seattle speaks while recovering from her injuries.

“At the end of the day, nobody is to blame if they are attacked. The attacker is to blame,” says the woman, who asked not to be named.

She says she was on her way to meet some friends at a coffee shop before enjoying the evening.

“Not even a full block after I parked my car, a man came up behind me and kicked me in the leg,” she says.

Surveillance video captures the suspect stalking her before catching up, charging her, and then casually walking away.

The attack happened just after 5 p.m. near Vine Street and Western Avenue last Friday.

“I really don’t know why this happened, but I also feel very fortunate that I can even ask why,” says the woman.

It left her with a sprained knee which she has been on crutches and a splint for at least 6 weeks.

But it’s not her injuries she’s focused on.

“I really hope my story can shift the conversation to why attackers have that confidence or channel to even release that emotion for that kind of violence against someone.”

Luckily, a good Samaritan saw what had happened, helped her up and took her to a nearby apartment to call for help. Although she feels slightly anxious, she is determined not to allow herself to be victimized by this act of violence.

“I don’t want it to be something that prevents me from going about my life. If anything, I have a feeling I’ll come out of it stronger on the other end,” she says.
