PeaceHealth appoints Doug Koekkoek as chief physician

Koekkoek will lead clinical care integration and develop existing and new partnerships to improve quality of care and outcomes

VANCOUVER – PeaceHealth recently announced that Doug Koekkoek, MD, will join PeaceHealth as Chief Doctor Executive.

Doug Koekkoek, MD

In this role, Koekkoek will lead clinical care integration and develop existing and new partnerships to improve quality of care and outcomes. Under Koekkoek’s leadership, the structure and standards for physician involvement across the healthcare system will be developed and implemented to unify our clinical care practices.

This will also provide the standard by which community vendors will be held. The Senior Physician will serve as the primary health care system physician internally and externally, and will provide medical oversight for PeaceHealth’s growing spectrum of physician relationships.

“This is an exciting time at PeaceHealth,” said Koekkoek. “I am very excited to serve and interact with providers with my focus on excellent clinical practices.”

Koekkoek is a seasoned clinical manager who has spent his career with Providence Health and Services, most recently as System Chief Medical Officer for the Physician Enterprise. The Physician Enterprise comprises more than 900 clinics and more than 9,000 physicians and resident physicians in the seven states that Providence operates.

Koekkoek earned his MD from Oregon Health & Science University. He also has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Oregon. Before moving to leadership positions, Koekkoek worked as a doctor in the greater Portland area for more than 20 years. Doug is the father of three grown boys and husband to wife Lisa. She loves cycling, running, skiing (both snow and water), and hiking.

Koekkoek will be based in PeaceHealth’s systems office in Vancouver, Washington. He will officially join the organization on April 19, 2021.

About PeaceHealth

Vancouver-based PeaceHealth is a nonprofit Catholic health care system serving communities in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. PeaceHealth has approximately 16,000 caregivers, a group medical practice with more than 900 providers, and 10 medical centers serving both urban and rural communities across the Northwest. In 1890 the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Peace founded what has become PeaceHealth. The sisters shared their expertise and transferred wisdom from one medical center to another in order to always find the best way to meet the unmet health care needs in their communities. Today, PeaceHealth is the legacy of the Founding Sisters and continues their spirit of respect, responsibility, collaboration, and social justice in the fulfillment of its mission.
