Pat’s Back Home Versus Spokane

Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats play the first of three games in four nights this week today as they host the Spokane Chiefs at 7:00 pm at the Brandt Centre.

The Pats are coming off a 6-1 loss to the Winnipeg ICE on Sunday, which ended their four game winning streak and their three-in-three weekend with a 2-1 record, gaining four of a possible six points. Regina’s loan goal was scored by Tanner Howe for his 20th of the season. Kelton Pyne made his season debut, allowing six goals on 40 shots. The Pats were outshot 40-20 by the ICE. The Pats went 0-1 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill.

Meanwhile, the Spokane Chiefs snapped their four game losing-streak with a 5-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors last night. Carter Streek tallied three points (2G-1A), Tommaso De Luca recorded three points (2G-1A), while Chase Bertholet scored and Dawson Cowan made 33 saves in the win. The final shots were 35-34 for the warriors. Moose Jaw was 0-2 on their power play and Spokane was 0-1 on their man-advantage.

The Chiefs are now 1-4 over their last five contests and have been outscored 16-to-9 during their last five games, having been shutout twice over that span. They are currently in the mix of a six game Eastern Division road trip, where today will be the third game of it.

It’s the first meeting between the Pats and Chiefs since Jan. 18, 2020 when Spokane beat Regina in Spokane, 6-2. The last time the Chiefs were in Regina was Oct. 17, 2018, with the Chiefs winning 4-0. The Pats have lost their last three meetings against the Chiefs since the 2017-18 season with their last win coming 4-2 on Oct. 21, 2016 on home ice.

HEADLINES

The Regina Pats recalled 2007-born forward Corban Almen from the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA and 2006-born defenseman Kolten Bridgeman from the Regina Pat Canadians U18 AAA. The Pats also reassigned 2007-born forward Cole Temple to the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA.

The Regina Pats have won seven of their last nine games since Nov. 25, outscoring their opponents 41-to-32, with a +9 goal differential during that time. The Pats have picked up wins over Vancouver (3-0), Victoria (9-5), Kelowna (OT, 6-5), Prince George (5-1) and Edmonton (8-2), Prince Albert (3- 2) and Calgary (5-2) over that stretch. Their only losses have been 9-3 to Kamloops and 6-1 to Winnipeg.

Connor Bedard (CAN) and Stanislav Svozil (CZE) are currently with their respective countries ahead of the 2023 IIHF World Juniors, and will be missing roughly eight Pats games due to the tournament. This is Bedard’s second World Juniors, while it is Svozil’s third.

64: Number of points (27G-37A) in 28 games for Pats captain Connor Bedard leads the WHL…his 27 goals are first, and his 37 assists are also first…the North Vancouver, BC product is also on a 27 game point streak with all 64 points during that time.
