Pamplin Media Group – Daily Life: TidalWave Comics releases Stevie Nicks comic book

Check back here for daily updates on happenings in the Metro Life entertainment and cultural world.

THURSDAY, JULY 28

Stevie Nicks — TidalWave Comics has produced a comic book about famed singer Stevie Nicks in its “Female Force” series, which focuses on women making an impact around the world.

It was released this week. It’s written by Michael Frizell with art by Ramon Salas, hard back cover art by Yonami and limited edition cover art by Portland’s Colton Levi Herbert. It’s available digitally and in print.

See www.tidalwavecomics.com.

In addition, the Portland drag queen Summer Seasons is part of the story, as she is a Stevie Nicks impersonator.

Rolling Stone named Nicks the “reigning queen of rock and roll” and named her one of the 100 greatest songwriters of all time. She’s been honored by the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame twice and received eight Grammy nominations and won two as a solo artist and one with her band, Fleetwood Mac.

Said Frizell, an educator at Missouri State University in Springfield, “There’s a popular meme that talks about how Taylor Swift writes sad songs about her exes, but Stevie Nicks makes her exes sing songs she wrote about them explaining how horrible they are, and every time I see it, I laugh. Stevie’s fearlessness makes her a rock legend and explains her staying power and popularity.”

Said Summer Seasons: “I grew up a Stevie Nicks fan because my mom liked her. In my 30s I started listening to her again and realized the power she held in her words and that each of them resonated with me in a deeply personal way. I told my mom I wanted to perform her music and that Christmas she gave me some vintage fabric and we worked together to design the look.As a culmination of our efforts I took my mom to see Stevie while being dressed in one of the Stevie looks We had created together. We laughed and we cried and we sung our hearts out. Performing Stevie has opened up my world to the magic that it has in it.”
