Pacific Edged by Whitworth in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash.Jericho Lara scored just three minutes into the contest, but Whitworth turned things around with a goal in each half to snatch the 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Boxers mustered just two shots in the contest while the Pirates were dominant from start to finish, racking up 25 total shots with 10 on target.

How It Happened

The Boxers hit the Pirates on a quick counterattack to start the match when Lara pounced on an errant back pass before chipping the goalkeeper, scoring Pacific’s first NWC goal of the season while giving his team an early 1-0 lead after just three minutes played.

Whitworth started to gain control of the match following the opening goal and eventually equalized in the 33rd minute from a corner. Jordan Voight rose up to thump in Jamie Rodriguez’s cross, making it 1-1 going into the break.

The hosts completed the comeback in the 61st minute following yet another set piece. Voight netted his second goal of the match after a well-worked attacking move, putting his team ahead by a goal with just under 30 minutes to play.

The Pirates’ defense held strong for the last half hour and they managed to come away with the 2-1 victory.

What It Means

Whitworth earns three points in the NWC standings to start their conference campaign. Pacific falls to 0-4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play, as they are still searching for their first win.
