SPOKANE, Wash. – Nothing will bring Fireman Cody Traber back from Spokane County, but a nonprofit is hoping to make life a little easier for his family.

Lieutenant Traber worked for Spokane County’s Fire District 9. He died in a bushfire last August. During the investigation, he fell off the Wandermere Bridge.

Traber was a loving husband and father of four, and while nothing can bring him back, they have one less worry.

The Tunnels to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the house that Traber built with his wife Allisyn.

“This is the only home my children remember and everything here reminds us of him,” said Allisyn. “This generous gift during the Season of Hope gives us confidence that there is good in this world, we just have to look for it.”

Tunnels to Towers does the same for the family of Erik Shouse, a Snohomish firefighter who died on duty in 2018.

“The loss of a loved one is an inner loss and thus a feeling of security and security. The secondary loss is felt when you wonder if your home is now also in danger, ”said Shouse’s wife, Kalina. “The Tunnels to Towers Foundation recognized this and took action. The importance of my home being completely safe for our daughters is a gift I really appreciate. I know Erik and all other fallen first responders are honored to have their families looked after during their absence.

Tunnels to Towers has delivered 135 mortgage-free homes across the country and will be paying off another 65 before the end of the year.
