SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ryota Nakashima scored the match-winning goal and David Sweeney made six saves to lead San Jose State (9-5-3, 5-2-2 WAC) to a 1-0 win over Seattle U (6-9-1, 5-4-0 WAC) on Friday night.

  • With the win, the Spartans move into second place in the WAC.
    • The Spartans will secure the second seed and a first-round bye in the WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament if Air Force (7-3-7, 6-1-1 WAC) either defeats or ties Grand Canyon (7-6-3, 4 -2-2 WAC) tomorrow night.
  • Sweeney’s six saves moved him into the seventh all-time in career saves by a Spartans goalkeeper
    • Sweeney now has 210 saves in his career, four more saves than Mike Taft (1988-1989)
    • He is only two saves away from tying Ryan Moore (1979-1982) for sixth in all-time saves.
  • For Nakashima, it was his first goal of the season and third goal of his career.
  • Herminio Padilla picked up his team-leading fourth assist of the season and the team’s leading goal scorer Beau Leroux, collected his second assist of the season.
  • The Spartans honored Padilla, Eduardo Miranda and Finlay Wood on Senior Night.

UP NEXT: The Spartans next match is still to be determined and depends on the result of tomorrow night’s match between Air Force and Grand Canyon. If the Spartans earn a first-round bye, their next match will be in the semifinals on November 11th. If the Spartans do not earn a first-round bye, their next match will be in the quarterfinals on November 9th. The WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament will be held November 9th to November 13th at CBU Soccer Stadium in Riverside, California.
