SEATTLE – Mitch Haniger hit his 12th home run, Justus Sheffield took a win against the team that designed it and the Seattle Mariners beat Cleveland 7-3 on Saturday night.

Dylan Moore added a three-run homer in the fourth inning ahead of Triston McKenzie to break up a close game and give Sheffield (3-3) victory in a showdown of previous first-round draft picks in Cleveland.

Sheffield worked out of traffic jams in the second, fourth and sixth innings – which helped turn doubles in the second – and overcame three doubles from José Ramírez. He hit two, walked two, and scattered five hits in six innings.

Haniger, a former All-Star who missed most of the past two years with injuries, hit a solo shot in the first inning to take the Major League lead on his 12th homer with Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. He added a single and run in the fifth inning to make the 5-0 and helped chase McKenzie (1-2).

Sheffield, a 25-year-old left-hander, was taken over by Cleveland in the first round in 2014, and McKenzie was drafted the next year. Cleveland traded Sheffield for the New York Yankees in 2016 as part of a deal for Andrew Miller.

Reliever Drew Steckenrider threw a perfect seventh place with two strikeouts to extend the streak to 13⅓ innings with only one deserved run allowed. Donovan Walton added a triple with two runs in the eighth for the Mariners.

Harold Ramirez hit a solo homer for Cleveland in ninth.

Tough night

One day after a home run and two doubles, the esteemed Mariners expert Jarred Kelenic took the lead 5-0 and struck three times in his third major league game. The 21-year-old rookie put on his helmet and stared at the referee after his third strike, which took place on three fields, including two so-called strikes.

Coach room

Cleveland: Left fielder Eddie Rosario returned to the line-up after pitching on foot against the Mariners on Friday night. He was drawn for a pinch of runners in ninth, but manager Terry Francona said he didn’t suffer any serious damage.

Seafarer: Infielder / DH Ty France (wrist) will be wearing a splint for up to five days and taking anti-inflammatory drugs while on the 10-day list of injured, manager Scott Servais said. France struck a blow on the forearm on April 28, and that could eventually have caused the wrist pain, Servais said.

Cleveland: Right-handed Shane Bieber (4-2, 2.95) completes the series for Cleveland. He has given up two deserved runs in 13⅔ career innings against the Mariners and sought to extend his strikeout streak of at least eight in a record of 20 consecutive games.

Seattle: Servais said he has not yet decided on a starter for the series finale on Sunday, which will likely be a bullpen start.
