Mary Dorman Obituary (1933 – 2021) – Everett, WA

In her own words, “I was born in Fargo, ND, in 1933. We lived in Long Prairie, MN with my younger sisters Sharon and Kay. In 1939 my mother took us by train to Seattle when my father got a job in Navy Yard, Bremerton. The early 1940s were an exciting and fun time as a kid in bustling Navy Town. My brother Bill joined the family in 1946. After graduating from Bremerton High in 1951, I began training as a nurse at St Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma in August. After graduating in 1954, I was engaged to Frank Lamar and we married the following April. Eight children followed over the next 13 years, 6 boys and 2 girls. And yes, we are Catholic.

In 1999, after 46 years of nursing, I retired, met and married Marshall Dorman, and moved to Everett. We were avid travelers and made many long car trips in the United States and Canada, plus at least one overseas trip per year, for the next 17 years. I also traveled with my daughter Jane to Amsterdam and London and in 2018 with my son David on a river cruise in Russia.

I died of my husbands, my sisters, and my daughter Mary Ellen. At the age of 88, in the prime of my life, I was hit by a non-competitive battle with pancreatic cancer. I leave behind my sons Bill, Gerry, Steven, David, Mike and Charles. Also my daughter Jane and her husband Steve who supported me for the past 6 years when I lived alone. I leave behind my brother Bill & his wife Paula, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

I also send a sad farewell to my numerous church friends, my mahjong friends, my St. Vincent de Paul conference, my lifelong school friends and my dear roommates, who have been so much comfort over the past few months. It’s been a damn fine life and I’m at peace. The Church has been important to me all my life. I hope to be taken to heaven by my dear God and loved ones who have gone before. “

Mary Dee was deeply loved and enjoyed a busy and fulfilling life. She is really missed and will never be forgotten. Please note the service announcement in April.
