Martha Jane (Rose) Hurst, 96, from Albany, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021.

Martha was born on September 11, 1924, to Russell and Nellie Rose at home on the family farm where she spent her childhood. Martha attended Reed School and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1942. She told her children how she rode the plow horse or went to school.

She was one of seven children. A sister who died as an infant and three brothers and a sister who preceded her in death. A brother, Harvey Rose, from Madras survives.

Martha moved to Chico, California as an adult, where she met and married Paul Hurst on August 27, 1945. She immediately gained a family in Paul’s daughters Pauline Gillispie from Troutdale and Gladys Wardlaw from Lebanon. Paul died in 1991.

She was a loving and devoted mother. Their children are Paul Hurst Jr. from Lebanon, Russell Hurst from Sweet Home, Harvey Hurst from Lebanon, Bruce Hurst from Vancouver, Washington, Nancy Dodson from Newberg, Bill Hurst from Ravensdale, Washington and Joyce Wren from Lebanon. She was also blessed and so proud of her 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Martha was an active member of the Sodaville Evangelical Church in Lebanon. While she was able, she was found making coffee and sitting up in front of church and visiting friends and offering rides after church. She volunteered at Meals on Wheels of Lebanon for 21 years.
