Mariners’ Matt Andriese: Signs on with Seattle

Andriese signed a one-year deal with the Mariners on Sunday and was inducted into the 40-man roster and 26-man roster ahead of the Seattle series finals in Houston.

Seattle wasn’t willing to take the remaining cash on Andriese’s $ 1.85 million one-year deal after Boston nominated him for a contract a few days earlier, but the Mariners brought the veteran savior on board for what is presumably a more team-friendly deal, when he cleared waivers and became a free agent. He’ll be a multi-inning option off the bullpen for Seattle, but expect manager Scott Servais to limit Andriese’s use to spots with lower leverage for the time being. Andriese raked in a 6.03 ERA and 1.77 WHIP on 26 appearances for Boston this season, but the Mariners are likely hoping that his solid 15.3K-BB% will be a better indicator of his future performance are.
