Mariners Breakdown: Is timing right to make a Juan Soto trade?

The Mariners landed with a thud after the All-Star break, with their 14-game winning streak tossed by the wayside as the American League West-leading Houston Astros swept Seattle in front of three big crowds at T-Mobile Park over the weekend.

It’s not as bad as it seems, though. The M’s still hold an AL wild card spot going into a new series at home against the Texas Rangers starting Monday night, and the Aug. 2 MLB trade deadline is only a week away, representing a chance for Seattle to further improve its team for what should be a competitive stretch run.

There’s a big question still out there about the Mariners and the trade deadline, though: Should they be in the hunt to get superstar Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals?

We’ve looked at what it would likely take for the Mariners to make a trade for Soto (with the help of ESPN MLB reporter Jeff Passan), but is the timing right? In our latest Mariners breakdown video with Seattle Sports’ Bob Stelton, he shares his take on the situation.

Stelton, who you can hear from 2-7 pm Monday through Friday on Wyman and Bob, has a lot more to say about the Mariners in general, too, including whether the 14-game winning streak or the Astros’ sweep says more about the team, and whether or not the M’s look like they’re playoff-bound to him.
