In some areas, libraries are simply stationary structures that provide a vital service to the community. They can even go unnoticed by those who don’t, and they are rarely the focus of attention. Step inside the Seattle Public Library (SPL) system, a popular institution for worshiping the Seattleites for reading. When Executive Director and Chief Librarian Marcellus Turner arrived here in 2011, he did not know which library city he had moved to.

“It was amazing how many people recognized me in the first few years I was here,” said Turner. “When I was walking down the street, I was often asked whether I was the main librarian.”
