Man is accused of kidnapping a woman and trying to kill a child

VANCOUVER, Washington (AP) – A man from Ridgefield, Washington, is being held on $ 1 million bail after authorities say he abducted a woman early Sunday while she was in a supermarket in Vancouver, Washington, Seeked help, attacked her and tried to kill her child.

Aarondeep Johal, 32, was reportedly released on bail in a pending lawsuit with the same victim and had a contactless warrant, The Columbian reported.

He appeared in Clark County Superior Court Monday on suspicion of attempted domestic violence murder, kidnapping, assault and other charges.

Assistant Attorney Gabriel Foster told Judge John Fairgrieve that a threat assessment revealed that the victim was “extremely at risk of being killed by the accused.”

In response, Johal said: “I have never touched (the alleged victim) in my life.”

According to a sworn affidavit with likely reason, a 7-Eleven employee told police that a woman asked to use the phone and that a man dragged her out, pushed her into a car and ran away, the court records say.

They were found in the victim’s home and the woman had a laceration on her head, police said. Officials said Johal threatened to kill the baby and pressed her against a wall, the affidavit said.

A crisis-entry hostage team responded, and an officer eventually beat Johal to get him to release the child, Vancouver police said.

The infant and his mother were taken to hospitals. The baby stayed in the hospital Monday afternoon, police said.
