Lorine LYNCH Obituary (2022) – Spokane, WA

1932 -2022

Our beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma (GiGi) passed away peacefully on April 25, 2022, after a brief illness. she was 90

Lorine Mary Lynch was born in Richardton, North Dakota, to Ludwig Joseph Hoerner and Mary Eve (Renner) Hoerner, the youngest of three children. She and her family moved to Spokane when Lorine was four and settled in the Gonzaga University-St. Aloysius neighborhood. Spokane was home for the rest of her life, with the exception of two years when she and her husband, Mike, were stationed in North Carolina while Mike was in the military.

Lorine attended Holy Names Grade School, Holy Names Academy and accepted a music scholarship to Holy Names College. She was an accomplished musician and pianist, excellent as both a soloist and when accompanying others. Music was a passion throughout her life and she passed on that passion to the many hundreds of students she taught across more than six decades as a teacher.

While attending Holy Names College, Lorine met Mike Lynch, the love of her life. They were married on August 29, 1953, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Spokane and began a loving union that lasted nearly 63 years until Mike’s passing in August 2016. Together they raised five children, residing in northwest Spokane and living together in the same home for more than 51 years, with a life centered on family and faith. The Lynch residence was the scene of countless celebrations with family and close friends.

Lorine and Mike loved to travel and enjoyed memorable trips to Ireland, France, Italy, Turkey, Spain and Hawaii to name a few, as well as adventures with family and friends on Crystal Cruise ships. Starting in the late 1980s, the family made many treks to Black Butte Ranch in central Oregon, which became a destination for joyful family reunions over the next 25 years. Lorine’s love of music extended to the Spokane Symphony, where she and Mike were long-time season ticket holders. They also supported local theater performances at both Interplayers and the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater.

Lorine’s life was faith-filled and she was a deeply devoted Roman Catholic who lived her faith by example every day. She was a member of St. Charles Parish for more than 60 years, and she volunteered many hours of her time to Catholic Charities, the St. Charles Altar Society and Food Bank, and the DePorres Manor League.

Always active, Lorine enjoyed tennis, swimming, cycling and cross country skiing. In later years, she walked nearly every day.

Lorine’s greatest joy was her family, and she took great pride in sharing the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Lorine and Mike were dedicated to education and made many sacrifices to ensure that their children received the best education possible – through college and beyond. She was enormously proud of her children and what she and Mike were able to create together. Her love for her 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren was deep and unconditional.

Lorine was preceded in death by Mike, her loving husband of 63 years, their cherished daughter Megan, her sister Longine (Hoerner)

Costello, her brother Leonard Hoerner and brother-in-law Joseph Lynch. She so looked forward to her weekly Saturday morning conversations with Leonard until his passing earlier this year.

Lorine is survived by her children Kim Lynch-Mallea (Michael) of Eugene, Oregon, Patrick Lynch (Suzanne) of Spokane, Molly Preston (James) of Spokane, and Bridget Corbani (Alain) of Saint Germain-en-Laye, France, and by son in-law John de Miguel of Ronda, Spain. Lorine is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Michael de Miguel, Colleen Mallea, Kathleen (Lynch) McDonnell, Molly (Lynch) Riding, Erin Mallea, Sarah Lynch, Patrick Mallea, Katie Preston, Sean Mallea, Joe Preston, and Antoine and Luc Corbani. She is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Philip de Miguel, Clare McDonnell, Nora McDonnell, Elin Reit, Vivian McDonnell, Elia de Miguel and Emma Preston.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24, at 11:00 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Avenue in Spokane. A reception will follow the funeral service in the Globe Room at Cataldo Hall, located across the courtyard from the church. Private information will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
