Linda Mae Proffitt | Obituaries

Linda Mae Proffitt, 78 years old, of Humansville, died on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 at the Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. She was born on May 12, 1943 in Strafford, the daughter of Roy Daniel and Erma Faye Manes Payne. When she was growing up, she attended Pleasant Hope Schools.

She was married to Samuel Dale Stokes on August 9, 1970 in Miami, Oklahoma, who had preceded her in death. She was reunited with Charles M. Proffitt on June 28, 2003.

She was saved at a young age and was a member of the Mt. Etna Baptist Church. She loved cooking, gardening, and reading. Linda enjoyed the cross stitching and embroidery. Most of all, she loved spending time with Charles, her children, and grandchildren.

Her parents preceded her in death; Husband Samuel; and one brother, James Payne. Linda is survived by her husband Charles of the house; six children, Mark Proffitt from Sulfur, Louisiana, Jimmie Stokes from Benedict, Kansas, Pamela Proffitt from Vancouver, Washington, Shannon Sawyer and husband Shelvin from Bolivar, Erin Barnoskie and husband John from Bolivar, Heather Gaddy and husband Dennis from Humansville; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Payne of Springfield; lifelong friend Karen Sanders from Bolivar; as well as many other relatives and friends.

The tour takes place on Wednesday, August 11th, from 6pm to 8pm at Pitts Chapel. The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of Rev.
