Larsen homers twice, Sox beat Canadians for 5th straight win

HILLSBORO – Jack Larsen homered twice, Levi Stoudt threw five strong innings and guest Everett AquaSox won his fifth game with an 8-2 win over the Vancouver Canadians on Thursday night at Roy Tonkin Field.

High-A West leaders AquaSox (45-22) have won 21 of their last 27 games, including the first three in their current six-game series against Vancouver (32-37).

Larsen hit a solo homer in the seventh and a two-run shot in the ninth, bringing his season home run total to eight. In his last six games, the 26-year-old former undrafted free agent has three homers, one triplet and three doubles.

Stoudt started for Everett, allowing one run and two hits in his five innings. The 2019 round three MLB draft pick knocked out three punches and went one.

The AquaSox led in the second inning with a double from David Sheaffer and an RBI single with two outs from Cody Grosse with a 2-0 lead.

Everett cleanup hitter Dariel Gomez, a new callup from Low-A Modesto, homered to 3-0 in the third. It was Gomez’s fourth extra-base hit in five games since his promotion.

In the sixth, AquaSox catcher Jake Anchia hit a leadoff double and scored a goal in a wild two-out pitch to increase the lead to 4-1.

Larsen later added his two homers to widen the gap.

Vancouver starter CJ Van Eyk, a draft pick for the 2020 Toronto Blue Jays second round, knocked out nine thugs in five innings. He allowed three runs, four hits and three walks.

The AquaSox and the Canadians continue their series on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
