Large bushfire burns near the Spokane River

According to the city, a bushfire the size of a football field burns near West Summit Boulevard and West Mission Avenue.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Washington – Spokane firefighters battle a 2 acre fire that burns near the Spokane River on Sunday.

Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said six engines, two helicopters and the Department of Natural Resources were on site and would work all evening to put out the flames.

According to the city council, the fire will reach the top of the hill and sparks will spread over the streets.

KREM 2 has a crew on site.

The fire brigade will continue their efforts early in the morning to stop the fire, said Schaeffer.
