Keys to a Week 3 win over the Minnesota Vikings

Today the Seattle Seahawks visit the Minnesota Vikings, arguably the NFL’s best 0-2 team and the most likely contenders to beat the odds and make the playoffs this year. Seattle should expect a tough effort from Minnesota all round and must be prepared to live up to that energy.

However, intangibles are only a small part of the game. Here are a few more important keys for the Seahawks that should help them get back into the profit column this week.

Attack: take the mids

Russell Wilson is who he is and he probably won’t transition into professional career for nearly a decade. The Seahawks shouldn’t discourage his instinct for throwing the ball deep. Wilson could do with attacking the middle of the field a little more, however. Seattle has had an extremely explosive and productive offensive so far this year. However, their success rate was terrible. Long story short, they need simpler games that make the drives longer. However, this burden can not only weigh on Wilson – it has to be a total team effort from offensive coordinator Shane Waldron to the last running back on the depth map.

Defense: Don’t get run over again

Minnesota subscribes to the Shanahan School of Offense, which means a heavy emphasis on out-of-zone runs and game action throws. Seattle could take a break with Dalvin Cook’s ankle sprain, however. He is questionable and seems unlikely to play. That should mean more work for Alexander Mattison, who troubled the Seahawks in 2020. In that match, Mattison scored 136 yards before scrimmage. If Justin Jefferson or Adam Thielen take on the cornerbacks, that’s one thing, but those defense have to prove they can stop the run after last week’s debacle – especially against a backup.
