John Schalow Obituary (1939 – 2021) – Everett, WA

On August 6, 2021, John R. Schalow joined his father Claude R. Schalow, stepmother Naomi S. Schalow, mother Beulah EL Thornton, sons James E. Schauman, John R. Schalow and his great-granddaughter Doris Faye Stumph Grogan in the eternal light of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Born on July 16, 1939, in Conconully, WA, John lived and loved to the full for 82 years. He enjoyed many picnics, gatherings, hunting, fishing, and shell-digging excursions that he spent with the family and took with him. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and long phone calls with friends and loved ones.

John graduated from Marysville High School in 1958. Upon graduation, he joined the US Navy, where he served 4 years aboard the USS Prairie (AD-15) and 2 years in the reserves. He was honored in 1964 and began his career at WSDOT. He worked in the construction industry for over 34 years and was chief inspector on several state and federal projects. He was also an active member of the Marysville Moose Lodge, the Granite Falls American Legion, and the Granite Falls Eagles. He was President of the Eagles’ Worthy in 1980 and 1981 and enjoyed his roles as Santa Claus and Mrs. Clause with Bonnie for many years.

John leaves behind his 51-year-old, loving wife Bonnie Darlene Schalow; his sister Patricia Schuknecht; his daughters Leona Stumph and Tracy Ramstead; his sons Kenneth Schauman (Mary), Gerald Schauman (Shirley), and Steve Stumph; his grandchildren Cherie (Freeman), Cheryl (Adam), Chrystal (Brandon), Chasity (Sean), Levi (Jamie), Matthew (Laurie), Sara (Jeffrey), Jonathon, Robert (Lysha), Jill, Laura (Joshua) , Domonick (ebony), Cynthia, Christian (Katie), Kimberly (Jason), Kelsee, Kristopher; and many precious great-grandchildren.

Family, friends, and others whose lives John touched went to Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA on Monday 23rd Other. The tour begins at 12 noon, followed by the church services at 1 p.m. Online services will also be available at www.floralhillslynnwood.com.

Instead of flowers, Bonnie would like potted flowers to commemorate John, which she can plant in her garden to appreciate for many moons and memorial donations to the Granite Falls Food Bank.
