“It’s a hot topic” – `

Former Blues goalie Jamie McLennan was in St. Louis last week to retire Chris Pronger’s No. 44 jersey. Before leaving town, he was aware of the debate over who should start the Games: Jordan Binnington or Ville Husso.

“I came in on (February 16), which was the day after Binnington gave up the game winner against Toronto,” McLennan said. “I know there have been some inconsistencies with Jordan’s game, so I know there’s a pressure point based on Husso’s game. I know it’s a hot topic.”

Things heat up even more after the Blues Husso got their third straight start on Sunday in Vancouver, where he won his fifth straight game.

The 26-year-old Finnish goaltender followed up a 5-0, 27-saver shutout against Seattle on Friday with 38 saves in the 3-1 win over Vancouver. It was almost another shutout as the Canucks’ lone goal came just four seconds after a full two-minute two-man lead had expired.

However, in Husso’s last five games he’s 5-0 with a 1.20 clean sheet average and a .963 save, stopping 154 of 160 shots.

Binnington is expected to win the bid on Monday as the Blues play the second night of a consecutive set in Calgary.
