“It makes me excited”: Spokane Girl Scout donates 200 boxes of biscuits to the military

Tinley Brown hopes to donate biscuits to Shriners Hospital if it exceeds its original goal.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Finding Boy Scout cookies this time of year is almost like finding a pot of gold.

You have to keep your eyes open, and when the opportunity presents itself, it’s difficult not to indulge in a couple of boxes of thin mints.

“My favorite cookie is the tagalong.” Tinley Brown is nine years old and has Troop 5151. She’s been selling the cookies for as long as she can remember.

That year she took on a pretty big job with the goal of pushing out 2,021 cookies. Not only did she do that, she also donates 200 boxes to the military.

“We gave the military donations and if we can get extra donations beyond my target, we will give some to Shriners if we can,” Tinley exclaimed.

Spokane has always been about helping local businesses, and Scouts are no different.

One person even donated $ 400 to their booth.

“I’m super proud of her,” said Tinley’s mother, Deanna Doyle. “She worked really hard and we are both exhausted after selling the cookies, but I’m super proud of her.”

At the end of cookie season, Girl Scouts like Tinley are a reminder of what they bring to the community.

A snack that has been around for more than 100 years, and most importantly, the Girl Scouts spread a smile and positive energy.

“It’s a lot of fun and my mom helped me a lot with it.”
