In fond memory of Betsy (Lyford) Brosius: 1949-2021

Betsy (Lyford) Brosius was born on June 10, 1949 in Vancouver, Washington, to Lowell and Betty Lyford, and died in Vancouver on December 16, 2021. She enjoyed growing up in a close family on Battle Ground. During high school, Betsy won many 4-H awards for her sewing and cooking skills. She was also selected to represent Battle Ground as the princess in the Portland Rose Parade.

During her senior year, she began dating Les Brosius. They graduated in June 1967. In 1970 Betsy graduated from Clark College with a degree in dental hygiene and then worked as a hygienist for several years. Betsy married Leslie Edward Brosius on August 28, 1971 in Vancouver. After 50 years of marriage, Les said, “Betsy never complained about the challenges she faced with MS. She was always very precious to me and I am a much better man today because of her. ”Her many friends would describe Betsy as warm, caring, kind and selfless. She was also gifted with an engaging personality and a lovely smile.

Betsy’s hobbies included cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and reading. She and Les also enjoyed conserving vegetables and fruits from their garden and welcoming friends and family to their beautiful home.

Betsy leaves her devoted husband Les and their children Marla (Robert) Doney of Vancouver; Shane of Osburn, Idaho; Cody (Jennifer), of Mesa, Arizona; and Jake from Vancouver; and her grandchildren, Riley, Jordan, Avery Doney and Emmalinda Brosius. Her sibling Ron Lyford from Sahuarita, Arizona also survived; Mary Ann (Don) Phillips of Palo Alto, California; and Genetta (Doug) Opstad, Leavenworth, Washington; as well as her long-time close friend in Iceland, Inga Sigurdardottir.

A memorial service was held in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens on December 28, 2021 at 12:30 p.m.
