Hurricanes rise after getting Jesperi Kotkaniemi with an offer sheet – The Athletic

Welcome to The Athletics 2021-22 edition of the NHL Pipeline Ranking as we look at the future of the NHL, team by team.

Each team has a full ranking of the best young players in their organization with a forecast of what is expected of each. Then those core groups are ranked from 1 to 32 so show how each one compares to the rest of the league.

The players’ eligibility to play depends on their age. A player is eligible if they are 22 years of age or younger on September 15, 2021. This includes almost all prospects selected between the 2017 and 2021 NHL drafts. This is used to include a team’s top prospects without aggressively grading players who have many years of best development ahead of them, even if they are already in the NHL.

For complete individual ratings of all players, with tool grades and levels applicable to all teams, see each team’s own player rankings.

The rollout will be faster than in previous years due to the shortened offseason, as all files will be released this week.

(Editor’s Note: The ranking was updated after the Canadiens refused to complete the Hurricanes’ bid sheet for Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Carolina moved up one place and Montreal moved down one place.)
