Help Pick A Route for the Silver Line Extension Through Everett – StreetsblogMASS

The MBTA will host its first virtual public meeting tonight for its Silver Line Extension Alternatives Analysis, a study that will recommend a conceptual express bus transit route extending the Silver Line through Everett towards downtown Boston.

The meeting is intended to provide an overview of the planning study and its results so far and also to obtain public feedback on the project objectives.

Project planners are also beginning to solicit public comments on possible directions that would extend the Silver Line bus route from its current terminus in Chelsea to Everett, Somerville, Cambridge and downtown Boston.

The current study builds on a 2019 transport analysis by the Lower Mystic Regional Working Group, which advocated an expansion of the Silver Line bus routes as one of the most effective transport investments in the region.

In this study, two specific express bus routes were presented that would branch off from each other in Sullivan Square: One branch would be along the redesigned Rutherford Ave. to the North Station in Boston (and could potentially form a Silver Line loop in conjunction with a downtown bus route, proposed by the City of Boston), while a second branch along Washington Street in Somerville would end in Kendall Square.

These orientations (highlighted with solid lines in the maps below), as well as a few others (dotted lines), are currently being assessed for their usefulness to potential drivers, cost and feasibility.

The T also solicits feedback through an online survey, available in English or Spanish, and an online interactive map.
