Haberman has Trump on tape about January 6

Former president Donald Trump claims he was “on the late side” of learning about the Capitol incident on Jan. 6, 2021. The details can be recorded in a brand new audio made public on Monday.

Trump stated to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman who interviewed him for his new book, that he had been meeting along with “Mark Meadows and others” and it was until later in the day that he switched on a television and learned exactly what was happening at Capitol. Mark Meadows was his chief of staff.

“I also had … confidence that … the Capitol, who didn’t want these 10,000 people, that they’d be able to control this thing,” Trump claimed, in reference to the U.S. Capitol Police. “And you don’t realize they did lose control.”

The tape, released through The New York Times, aired on CNN. The day before, Trump delivered a speech on the Ellipse in front of the White House, encouraging supporters to march to the Capitol in protest of his 2020 election loss as lawmakers met to officially certify the outcomes.

After the Capitol incident, Trump released a video telling his supporters to “go home” and that “we need to have law and order.” The president has been accused of having not communicated this message to his supporters sooner in the timeframe. That time has become a major area of focus on the Jan. 6 committee.

Haberman’s memoir, Confidence Man The Birth of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America, is scheduled to be released on the following Tuesday. The book Haberman discusses several incidents from the Trump administration, and one of them is regarding how Trump internally threatened to gain access to her phone records in order to find leakers within Trump’s White House.

The book also asserts that Trump had considered dismissing White House aides Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner and announcing their departure on social media. Trump has denied the allegations in a statement on Friday.
