Greater Spokane League football: Mason Emerson’s late TD catch lifts Pullman above North Central

Mason Emerson scored a touchdown pass with 16 seconds left and Jaxon Patrick’s extra point allowed Pullman to beat North Central 7-6 in a Greater Spokane League 2A game at Union Stadium on Saturday.

After a stalled ride, the Greyhounds (1: 1) decided to stab Central about 3 minutes before the 34th. North Central could not accept an initial relegation and returned to Pullman 42 seconds from time.

After two quick, incomplete passes, Alex Wills hit Tanner Barbour on the right sideline to convert a third-and-10 into the NC 22 16 seconds left. Patrick drilled the extra point

The Indians (0-1) had a long finish to get into midfield, but their final game ended with QB Carter Strom being thrown without a throw.

Wills finished 6 of 18 for 91 yards for the greyhounds. Emerson had 15 carry places for 61 yards.

Strom completed 9 of 13 tries for 76 yards. Jordan Dever made six catches for 43 yards and Maxx Richmond carried 19 times for 51 yards for NC.

Both teams had their most promising offensive runs in the first half of sales in the end zone.

At the end of the first quarter, the Indians had a fourth and long place in the Pullman 16. Electricity was flushed from the pocket and his desperation in the end zone was dragged down by Pullman’s Barbour for a touchback.

Late in the second quarter, Pullman pulled a fumble back and put together a nine-game ride, including a 22-yard completion from Wills to Barbour. The greyhounds had the second goal on NC 5 and Emerson went out of hand to get an obvious result. The ball was torn loose at the goal line, however, and North Central rallied it for a touchback.

In the third quarter, the Indians had a 10-play-drive stall at Pullman 16. A failed snapshot during a field goal attempt turned the ball over. The next game, Pullman fumbled and gave NC the ball to Greyhound 17.

Strom linked up with Devers for the game’s first score in the following match, but the 2-point conversion attempt failed.

Clarkston 27, East Valley 6: Nic Schofield scored three quick touchdowns and passed for one, and the Bantams (1-1) defeated the visiting Knights (0-1) in a GSL 2A game.
