Fresh Paint event gets a fresh new location in Everett

EVERETT – This year’s Fresh Paint Poster is a splash of color.

Everett artist Alexander Vincini not only paints – he has also worked in photography, videography and sculpture.

Vincini, the poster artist for Everett’s annual Artists-at-Work Festival, was artist in residence at the Schack Art Center last year and is now working there as a marketing intern. He declined the Daily Herald’s request to be interviewed.

You can see his posters and more of his art this weekend at Fresh Paint, this year running along the Port of Everett boardwalk from Grand Avenue Park Bridge to Pacific Rim Plaza.

When you cross the bridge between 16th Street and West Marine View Drive, you’re in the middle of the action.

“The really exciting things are two things,” says Carol Thomas, Head of Development at Schacks. “First, we now have the footbridge, which gives much better access to all of North Everett. And secondly, we have moved our location and are now along the beautiful esplanade – it is a very wide half-timbered path. ”

Vincini is one of 86 artists who will demonstrate their art in some form. Here you will find painters, potters, glass artists, jewelers and more.

The festival also includes live music – from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday – with The Porters and Alex Johnston, as well as food trucks The Cheese Pit, Scotsman Espresso, Absolutely Nuts, Mt.Baker Kettle Corn and Road Dawgs.

This year there will be glass blowing demonstrations in the “Hot Shop” of the Schack Art Center at 2921 Hoyt Ave. You can even register on August 21 to make your own glass floa.

“The point of Fresh Paint is that you see artists doing their craft,” said Thomas. “They do their illustrations, their paintings or create their jewelry and you can watch them doing it. That’s why it’s called the Festival of Artists at Work – because you have the opportunity to watch the artists create their art. ”

And yes – you can buy artwork fresh from the easel.

“The artists will come well-stocked because so many festivals have been canceled (because of the pandemic),” said Thomas. “These artists really have problems because that’s how they make a living. Not having Fresh Paint last year was a real blow to their budget. ”

If you’re planning and aren’t near the bridge on Grand Avenue, avoiding a $ 5 parking fee at the marina by taking the bus from downtown Everett.

A free Fresh Paint shuttle operates between the Schack Art Center, 2921 Hoyt Ave., Everett, and the Everett Marina Festival. Parking is available in the Everpark Garage one block north of the Schack.

Vincini, who graduated from Everett High School in 2010, has made Everett his artistic home.

He was one of more than a dozen artists featured at Support Local Art & Music, aka SLAM, in Tony V’s garage in 2019. SLAM is an annual fundraiser for Strong Against Cancer.

In 2016 he decorated a piano for Everett Street Tunes, which invited passers-by to tickle the ivory in front of the Vintage Cafe. Vincini’s title of his work “Epoca Rosso”.

In 2017, he was one of the organizers of Real Event at the Historic Everett Theater featuring local artists and the history of the Everett Theater.

In 2013, Vincini helped produce the adult-only show “ApocaLips: Danger, Sex and Art” in the former 3231 Creatives building. There were bands, artists, performance art, some variety and some neo-burlesque.

In addition to Tony V’s garage, Vincini has shown his artwork in the Black Lab Gallery on Hewitt, Cafe Zippy on Rucker and Narrative Coffee on Wetmore. If you’re not in a gallery, you might have seen his art in the Dada Fructose Audiovisual Experience – Vincini provided the visuals for the shows.

Vincini created works for Bluewater Organic Vodka, partnered with Historic Everett, and supported the Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop.

Thomas von Schacks said they were lucky to get Vincini to do this year’s Fresh Paint poster.

“It has a very fresh, picturesque look that is so aesthetic,” said Thomas of Vincini’s poster. “It went perfectly with what we wanted to express. The freshness of the marina, the artist’s easel and the colors. ”
