Family Escapes Marysville House Fire – Everett Post

A family escaped the fire that significantly damaged a Marysville home Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to the home on 88th Street NE around 7:30 am after multiple calls to 911, including one call from the child who lives at the residence. Flames and smoke heavily damaged the home. Everyone inside, including two pets, made it out safely. There were no injuries. The home did have working smoke alarms.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the fire appears to have started in the attached garage. Red Cross volunteers are providing temporary housing for the two adults and one child who lived at the home.

“We are thankful this child knew how to call 911 for emergency help,” Fire Marshal Tom Maloney said. “We encourage families to teach children your address and how to dial 911 because they can be a lifeline when grownups cannot call for help.”

• Children should make sure they’re safe before calling 911. If there’s a fire, get out first then call 911 from a safe place.
• Teach children how to use your cell phone’s “Emergency” shortcut to call 911.
• Be sure children understand when 911 is used, only during an emergency. Prank calls to 911 can delay help for people who truly need it.
• Ensure your child knows basic information to share with a 911 dispatcher, such as your address.
• Keep your phone somewhere your child can find it and make sure it is charged.
