Ezequiel Tovar leads the charts, Spokane Indians win Vancouver 5-4 | Spokane Indians

Ezequiel Tovar went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and the Spokane Indians held the Vancouver Canadians 5-4 in the first of a six-game High-A West series in Hillsboro, Oregon on Tuesday.

The Indians (61-46) stayed half a game ahead of runner-up Eugene (62-48) and two games ahead of third-placed Everett (60-49). Spokane has won four in a row and 23 of their last 29 games.

Spokane scored 13 hits, five for additional bases, and drew four walks. The Indians went 5 for 16 with runners in the scoring position and left 11 runners on the base.

After 2-0 in the third inning, the Indians blew up for four runs. Tovar delivered an RBI double and then scored a singles from Brenton Doyle.

Doyle finished second with a groundout and scored due to a fielding mistake that allowed Aaron Schunk to finish second. Schunk later scored on a single from Hunter Stovall.

The Indians made it 6: 3 in the sixth. Daniel Cope started with a single, finished third with a Jack Blomgren double, and scored with a Tovar popup single.

Indian starter Noah Davis reportedly went out after 3 1/3 innings due to a blister on his pitching hand. He allowed two runs with two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Dugan Darnell hit three over two scoreless innings to score his 13th save of the season.

Eugene 9, Everett 6: Armani Smith went 2 for 4 with two homers and five RBIs and the Emeralds (62-48) beat guest AquaSox (60-49). Sean Roby and Ismael Munguia also went deep for Eugene. Cade Marlowe went 3 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs for Everett.

Hillsboro near Tri-City: The first of a six-game series between visiting Hops (48-59) and Dust Devils (42-64) has been canceled with Tri-City due to COVID-19 concerns.
